Lanna was the name of the old kingdom of northern Thailand established in the 13th century. Lan-na literally translates as one million rice paddies, symbolic of the wealth and prosperity of the kingdom. Lanna flourished for over two hundred years, a period remembered for its grace and beauty. The capital was the ancient walled city of Chiang Mai.
